Faculty Management
Dean
The dean is elected by the faculty council from amongst the faculty’s professors. According to the Statutes of THWS (Grundordnung), the dean is elected for a four-year term; re-election is permitted. The Dean’s duties are now stipulated by article 38 BayHIG, those of the Deputy Dean by article 39 BayHIG and those of the Eean of Studies by article 40 BayHIG. In particular, the dean is responsible for chairing the faculty council. The dean represents the faculty, insofar as it has partial legal capacity, carries out the decisions of the faculty council and conducts the faculty’s day-to-day business.
Deputy Dean
Upon a proposal by the dean, the deputy dean is elected by the faculty council from amongst the faculty’s professors. According to the Statutes of FHWS, the deputy dean is elected for a two-year term; re-election is permitted. The deputy dean represents the dean (Article 29 BayHSchG).
Dean of Studies
The dean of studies is elected by the faculty council from amongst the faculty’s professors. According to the Statutes of THWS, the dean of studies is elected for a three-year term; re-election is permitted. The dean of studies is responsible for teaching and studies (Article 30 BayHSchG). In particular, the dean of studies is responsible for ensuring that the courses offered correspond to the study and examination regulations, that the studies can be carried out properly within the standard period of study, and that the students are adequately supervised; deans of studies are also responsible for the evaluation of teaching including evaluations by students.
